In order to minimize the amount of data transmitted over a X protocol channel, caching and compression systems can be used, so that X session applications are made more responsive.LBX, Low Bandwidth X, was one of the first project of this kind, but it has been dropped in 1997. It ran as a proxy server (lbxproxy). It cached commonly used information compressed data transmission over the network link.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

Procedure:1) download sources from http://sourceforge.net/projects/lmbench2) de-compress archive3) cd src/4) make lmbenchAnd in bin/ directory you'll find all tools you need!On top of that, the following ...

Finally xen-sources-2.6.31-r7 have been released at gentoo-xen-kernel developers website. It would be very interesting to give it a try compiling them on Debian too. I personally tried the xen-sources-2.6.29-r4 obtaining great results (on Gentoo Linux, of course).

Sometimes it could be useful to run Xephyr as root, but something unexpected may happen. For example, this could be a common problem:
# Xephyr -ac :1No protocol specifiedXephyr cannot open host display. Is DISPLAY set?
The solution is to log in as a normal user and issue the following command:
# xauth list
You will get something like this:
VDDServer/unix:0 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 34tf17yt938rddd324j37b9a09e664...

Replacing xnest with Xephyr. Xephyr is a kdrive based X Server which targets a window on a host X Server as its framebuffer. Unlike Xnest it supports modern X extensions ( even if host server doesn't ) such as Composite, Damage, randr etc (no GLX support now). It uses SHM Images and shadow framebuffer updates to provide good performance. It also has a visual debugging mode for observing screen updates.http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/XephyrXephyr works fu...

Useful for dispatching operating systems that do not use X. It is possible with Xen to start a VNC server, by modifying the start file of each virtual machine. LTSP script launch an application (vncviewer) with specific settings (to avoid compression and, hence, the load on thin client), and it connects to the particular machine. One must act on lts.conf in order to launch a script, that is similar to rdesktop, but it is adapted to VNC....
